The region centred on Texas in Southern Queensland and adjacent to the border of Northern New South Wales has a rich history. A strong sense of community exists in this area of diverse opportunity. Glenlyon and Pindari dams provide valuable water to the region. They also provide the opportunity for aquatic activities such as boating, fishing, camping and picnics at the dams and along the water ways they feed.
Farming enterprises in the district include – Lucerne, barley, wheat, oats, corn, beans, peanuts, cotton, grapes, stone fruit, cucurbits, potatoes, olives and more. Wine from the region’s vineyards is gaining recognition for its high quality. Livestock industries are made up of traditional and new enterprises – Cattle, sheep & wool, deer, goats, and ostriches.
The region has tremendous potential for tourism growth, already boasting a range of property camping locations in the area. With interesting locations within access of cars and buses it provides the district with potential for tourism operators to build on.

The McDougall brothers originally settled on the land where Texas Station is now situated about 1840. The property was abandoned in the 1850’s while the brothers tried their luck on the goldfields. When they returned they found their land had been taken by another settler and it was some time before they were able to establish prior claim. In 1936 Texas US was at war with Mexico, fighting for their independence, so the McDougall’s called their property Texas as their dispute was similar.
